Lunar New Year festivities are coming up! This is a fantastic opportunity to expose our children to different cultures and traditions. Exciting activities planned for this event include:
· Red envelopes with a small gift will be given to all students
· Students are encouraged to wear red on Friday (2/8), for luck and happiness
· To encourage student participation, we have created a snake coloring page on yellow paper that we will use to decorate the little theater and the blue wall on the black top. The students may pick up these sheets in front of the school office and color the snake and return them back in the same place. We love to see their artwork around the school!
Thursday, February 7th (all day) - learning Kung Fu during PE classes.
Cultural Craft Booth: fun arts & crafts for all students to enjoy during lunch recess.
Friday, February 8th (10:30 - 11:15 am) - Lunar New Year Cultural Performance. Parents are welcome to join us on the black top to enjoy the festivities. A dragon march, Kung Fu demonstration and folk dance will be performed by our very own Valentine students. The San Marino High School Chamber choir will also give us a vocal performance .
· Our Valentine cafeteria will feature an Asian menu on Friday 2/8 as part of the celebration.
· Prepacked lunch boxes from Panda Express will be available to all Valentine teachers & staff, generously sponsored by the San Marino Chinese Club.
In addition, we have compiled a list of over 120 books previously donated by the San Marino Chinese Club to the Valentine school library in connection with past Lunar New Year celebrations that we would like to encourage our students to check out from the library. This is a wonderful resource for our students to learn and understand about different cultures.
We wish everyone a healthy and prosperous year of the Snake!
