4 Extends and Expands:
The student applies the learning standard in ways that are in-depth and significantly beyond what was explicitly taught OR beyond the expected level of performance.

3 Proficient Understanding/able to apply:
The student demonstrates understanding of and the ability to apply the learning standard consistently and independently. This is the target for the grade level standard.
2 Developing Understanding/some application
The student demonstrates partial understanding of the learning standard and is attempting, with some guidance, to consistently apply the learning standard taught.
1 Minimal Understanding/guided application:
The student demonstrates little or no understanding of or the ability to apply the learning standard without significant teacher assistance or guidance. There is little progress toward meeting the standard; more time and practice is necessary for development.
